"I was lucky enough to visit Hillandale in late October, when the rhododendrons were at their full splendour – But in fact any time is a good time.
The extensive garden was carefully designed by its original owners to exploit all the seasons, and the new owners have lovingly preserved and enhanced the effect.
There are fine vistas, magnificent old plants and plenty of smaller surprises in the beautiful perennial border.
A wonderful place to relax, especially after the double disillusion of our current politicians. Let a hundred flowers bloom, I say."
